Carl E. Howard was the son of V. E. and Lena May {Peg} (Johnson) Howard. He grew up in Canaan, VT and graduated from the Colebrook Academy in Colebrook, NH. He attended the University of New Hampshire for one year, then went into the U.S.M.C. during the Korean Conflict, serving in Japan and Korea.

He was married to Gladys Lorraine Butler on Dec. 17, 1955 in Coral Gables, FL. To this union were born two children, Stephen Eugene and Brenda DeLois.

After returning to civilian life, he attended and graduated the U. of N.H. in 1959 with a BA in business. He became an engineer with a company which built and installed roller track systems for large entities, the latest being for the FAA control tower at the Atlanta-Hartsfield Airport.

Funeral services were held at the Trinity United Methodist Church, Suwanee, GA, of which he was a member. Officiating were Dr. Robert Powers and Rev. Seymour Halford. Arrangements were by Bill Head Funeral Home of Duluth, GA. After cremation the cremains were buried in the Canaan Town Cemetery, Caanan, VT.

In addition to his wife, survivors include their daughter, Brenda, son-in-law, Scott Ehly, two grandsons, Sam and Ben, and other relatives and friends. His son, Stephen, preceded him in 1991.
