Drayton McDuffy Clary Sr., 85, husband of Mrs. Edna Elmore Clary, of 400 E. Buford Street, died at 11 a.m. Sunday at his home after three months of declining health and a serious illness of two weeks.
Mr. Clary was a lifelong resident of Cherokee County and son of the late O.H.H. and Mary Welcher Clary. He was a retired merchant, a member of Knights of Pyhthias and Woodmen of the World.
Surviving beside his wfe are: two daughters, the Misses Rizah and Mary Edna Clary both of Gaffney; three sons, Drayton M. Clary Jr., Joe Mack and Dean E. Clary all of Gaffney; two sisters, Mrs. R.R. LeMaster of Gaffney and Mrs. W.R. Cason of Greenville; and nine grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted today at 4 p.m. at First Baptist Church by Dr. Denver J. Davis and the Rev. Tom Brittain. Burial will be in the Oakland Cemetery.
Pallbearers are: Ralph, Earl, Broughton, Ferguson, C.H. and Wayne Clary, Claude Hammett and Oscar B. Elmore.
Members of the Lodge Sunday School Class will comprise the honorary escort.
The body will be taken from Shuford - Hatcher Funeral Home to the church at 3 p.m.
