Having attended schools in both South and North Carolina, he came to Wyoming in the spring of 1916 with his uncle Craton Alexander. He was employed as a roustabout by the Lightning Creek Livestock Co. until the fall. He returned to Carolina to spend the winter. In the spring of 1918 he again returned to Douglas, Wyoming to make it his permanent home. He worked on various ranches in the surrounding area becoming foreman of the John T. Williams Sheep and Cattle Co. where he worked for eight years. He took up a homstead in the Walker Creek Community, later selling it to the Williams Sheep and Cattle Company as many of the employees did at that time to their employers.
On November 30, 1925 he married Edna Pfeifer. To this union were born two sons and one daughter, all of whom reside in the LaBonte community.
In 1940 he purchased the Archie Picklesimer ranch on LaBonte from Saul and Zimmerman. They resided there until 1975, raising Hereford and crossbred cattle. He retired in 1975 and moved into Douglas where they lived until the time of their tragic accident September 22, 1976 killing both him and his wife.
