Joann Edwards Alexander LUBBOCK-Joann Edwards Alexander, 87, of Levelland passed away Thursday, Jan. 23, 2014, in Olton. She was born Sept. 1, 1926, in Tahoka. Mrs. Alexander was residing at Runningwater Draw Care Center in Olton at the time of her death. Mrs. Alexander received her Associate's degree from Tarleton State University and her Bachelor's from North Texas State University in Denton. She spent her childhood in Tahoka and then, at age 23, married F. Joab Alexander and settled to raise a family in Levelland. Mrs. Alexander was a member of First Baptist Church in Levelland since 1959. Unwavering in her faith in Jesus, she fought fiercely for what she believed in. She is survived by her four children, Kris Ellen King (Lew), Terri Ann Hassenmiller (Jim), Kathryn Alexander (John), and Joab Edward Alexander; grandchildren, Marcus Alexander McDermett, and Keelee Laine Campos; great-grandchildren, Mayzie Jayde Alexander, Dorian Brodie Campos, and Tiara DeLyone Campos; brother, Jerry Edwards (Barbara) of Oregon; and sister-in-law, Lorena Garver of New Mexico. Mrs. Alexander also leaves behind five nieces and two nephews, Barbara, Norman, Grace, Michael, Linda, Sammy, and Nancy. Preceding Mrs. Alexander in death were her parents, Marcus and Nettie Edwards of Tahoka; husband, F. Joab Alexander of Levelland; brothers, Homan, Wells, and Billy; and grandchildren, Jon Eric Hensley of Levelland and Whitney Brook Bivin of Benton, Ark. The family will receive friends from 1 to 3 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 26, 2014, at Combest Family Funeral Homes. Services will be private.
