Moved to west of Grapeland, town called Reynard right after slavery-1870 he is there according to census records. Came from Tennessee. The Trinity River seems to have provided a way fror people to reach Grapeland. It seems that John was married to Martha in about 1862. They had children-Peter(Fannie Johnson), Ann(Calvin Barnes), Ellen(Wils Morning) and Tempey( James Jackson,Tobi Bell). Martha died at age 75 1904 attended by Dr. BS Elliott.
By 1880 he lived in Augusta and with him was grand child Mary Willis and her daughter Mary Willis Dancy. Also was Tempy and Buddy Douglas.
In 1910 he was an Elder of Jenkins Chapel Christian Church located on the property of Van (Mobley) Curvey that was bought from Cary Jenkins. Another Elder was Daniel Rusher. Deacon was L.R. Rusher
