Bill (Wm) was the youngest of John Hogan.Sr/ amd Bess Beswick Hogans' 3 sons. He graduated from Kenosha High Scho0l in 1943 and enlisted in the air force, putting
all three of the Hogan brothers in the service at the same time. Bill trained as a Radio Operator in Sioux Falls, SD and took gunnery training at Yuma AFB Az. His B-24 crew was assigned to the Army Air Corps' 11th Air Division in the Aleutian Islands. The 11 AD performed the first land-based bombing missions of WWII against Japanese home islands, from Attu and Shemya Islands to the Kuriles. There, in addition to long range bombing missions over Northern Japan Islands, they faced treacherous weather condition landings. The 11th AD had the highest combat to accident ratio of any theater of war. (Aleutian Islands weather was the culprit.) Bill had sustained severe head injuries in a crash landing that resulted in the death of 5 of his fellow crewmen. Bill received numerous awards that included an Air Medal and an Air Offesive Japan battle star. (That added the 8th battle star earned by the three brothers in WWII) He lived with familly members after the war and worked with his brother, John, as a teamster in Illinois for 4 years. He lived with his parents until they passed away and then lived by himself in the family home. Bill loved gardening and in the late 1980s, he found a "match" with the Betheh Hillel Temple in Kenosha and became their caretaker and resided in the temples' caretaker apartment. Bill,a devout Catholic, truly became a member of the Betheh Hillel family for the 14 years he serveved. A special marker was placed in an outdoor sanctuary (Beit K'nesset in Hebrew) dedicated to Bills'memory upon his passing. His AAF headstone lies beside that of this parents.
