Opal Ruth was the third and last child born to Charles Forest Shepherd and his wife, Etta Viola Antrim Shepherd. Her sisters were Ruby, who died in infancy and Marjorie Rose, who was born in 1921. Opal was married to Clinton Perry Colby on August 11, 1938 in Central City, Nebraska.
From the Silver Creek Sand newspaper of August 12, 1938. Clinton Colby, son of Mr. and Mrs. George Colby, and Miss Opal Ruth Shepherd, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Chas. F. Shepherd, drove to Central City Thursday afternoon to procure a marriage license and be married at once. The groom has been a resident of this community for the past several years, making his home with his parents, two miles north of Havens. The bride was born and raised in this community, and is a graduate of the Silver Creek high school, class of 1938, having been an honor student and editor-in-chief of the Kreeketeer. The young folks will commence housekeeping at once on the Shepherd eighty, four miles west of Silver Creek.
They had two children;

Betty Louise C. - b. 1942
