John Wesley Kellums was born in Indiana and married to Margaret A. Henry who was born in Ohio. They had both been reared in their respective states and received the educational advantages there in public school and later met and married. Mr. Kellums was a general farmer in Illinois and also engaged in stock raising, an occupation he followed all his active business life. He was a Republican in his political views while his fraternal affiliations were with the Independent Order of Odd Fellows. There are government records showing John Wesley Kellums enlisted as a private and was discharged as a corporal in the 49th Indiana Infantry during the Civil War.
John Wesley and Margaret had eight children:

John Houston Kellums - b. 1859-1952
LeRoy. Kellums - b. 1862-1892
Thomas Ferdinand Kellums - b. 1864-1866
Elizabeth Frances Kellums - m. John Frazier
Mary Jane Kellums - b. 1875-1875
Nancy Jane Kellums - b. 1875-1875
Margaret died in 1879 and John passed away in 1913.
To date, a stone or inscription has not been located nor described that marks this pioneer's resting place.
