Death: Jan. 19, 1966
Dansville
Steuben County
New York, USA

Daughter of Van and Nina Sylvester Pierce. Spouse of Vincent Balding.

A woman was killed and a North Dansville official seriously injured yesterday afternoon in a two-car collision on snow-swept Route 256, about two miles north of Dansville.

She became Dansville's first highway fatality of 1966, coming just 19 days after the advent of the new year.

Dead upon arrival at Dansville Memorial Hospital was Mrs. Vincent (Grace) Balding, 45, of 6 Bank St. She succumbed to head injuries not yet determined at a late hour yesterday.

Listed in serious condition with head lacerations and possible concussion is Wallace Balding, 70, of 47 Perine St., a member of the three-man North Dansville Board of Assessors.

The victim and township official were passengers in a car operated by her husband and his son, Vincent Balding, 39, also of 6 Bank St. He suffered a head laceration and is listed in satisfactory condition.

Driver of the other car involved in the crash shortly after 2 p.m. was James Heedley, 19, of 32 Scott St., Hornell. Also injured was his wife, Kristene, 18, Heedley is being treated for chest injuries and is listed in satisfactory condition. His wife suffered a fractured leg and hip injuries. She also is listed as satisfactory.

According to the accident report filed by Sheriff's Sgt. Robert Sinclair, and Deputies Arthur Farrell and Weldon Devinney, it is believed that the south-bound Heedley vehicle skidded in front of the north-bound Balding car and the two autos collided head-on. Each vehicle was demolished.

The body is at Chamberlin Funeral Home, where friends may call. Arrangements are incomplete. (Genesee County Express, January 20, 1966, p1)
