Mark was born on August 2, 1916 on the family ranch in the Chalk Buttes community. The son of Fines and Annette (Moore) Bearrow. When Mark was 3, the family sold their ranch and moved 40 miles southwest of Broadus where they purchased the Sam Pierce ranch on Elk Creek in the otter community and continued living there for the next 14 years. While there he attended school in Ashland. In 1933, the Bearrow's sold the ranch and returned to the Chalk Buttes Community. During his teenage years, Mark worked for area ranchers, also spending time on the Ross Swope Ranch on the Powder River. In 1937, Mark purchased the "Belle" place at a sheriff's sale in Ekalaka for 57 cents an acre.
In the late 1930's and early 1940's, Mark became a very accomplished saddle bronc rider. He rode in all the area rodeo's and always placed in the money. Mark would break horses to ride for hire.
In 1941, Mark went to work for the Bones Bros. Ranch at Birney, Montana breaking horses there that were being sold to the government Remount Service. Mark worked for the Bones for about eight years. It was at the Bones Bros. that Mark met Sophia Patz, who stole his heart and they were married November 15, 1941 in Sheridan, WY. From about 1950, Mark was foreman at the Ned Cox ranch at Birney.
In 1959, they moved to Polleck place at Garland, 35 miles up the Tongue River from Miles City. They had a three year lease on the ranch and after three years were up, they moved back to Birney where mark became both a Livestock Inspector for the state of Montana and a deputy sheriff for Rosebud County. When Mark’s deputy career ended, his detective career grew. In 1963, the family moved to Miles City. Mark was assigned to investigate a large cattle smuggling operation near the state border at Powell. He solved that case and the perpetrators were eventually brought to justice. In 1994, they moved to Harlowton where mark was assigned as District Inspector. In 1994, Sophia passed away after a battle with cancer. In 1968, Mark married Elise Barnes.
Marked suffered a severe stroke in December of 1997, which he never fully recovered from. He resided at the Eagles Manor in Lewistown until last year, when he moved to Bozeman, Montana to be near his son, Mark Jr.
Funeral services will be held Friday, January 8, 1999 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Miles City with Rev. Bob Thaden Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in the Range Riders Section of the Custer County Cemetery.
