Kenneth Lee Adkins, 73, of Connersville, went home to be with the Lord Friday, February 7, 2014, at his home in rural Fayette County.
One of three children, he was born June 28, 1940 in Pikeville, Kentucky, the son of Millard and Edna Marie Stratton Adkins.
On February 14, 1990, he married Janet Sue Burch of Connersville at Merritt Island, Florida.
For more than twenty-five years, he proudly served with U.S. Army, 1st Cavalry Division including two tours in Vietnam; then, following his honorable discharge in 1984, he was employed for more than fifteen years as a correctional officer in Sharps, Florida. In his leisure, he enjoyed fishing and collecting minature trains.
He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and the American Legion Post #1.
Survivors include a son and his family, Mike (Debra) Adkins and his daughter, Sharon, both of Bristol, Connecticut, and three step-granddaughters, Kathern (John) Clark and her daughter, Anne, both of Long Island, New York, Erin (George) Merillo and her children, James and Elyasa, all of Melbourne, Florida, and Kelly (Bobby) Bearden and her daughters, Alexa and Robin, also of Florida.
Survivors also include two additional sons, Robert (Evelyn) Adkins and his two children, Zachery and Katlyn, all of Fayetteville, North Carolina, and Stephen Adkins of San Antonio, Texas.
Kenneth was also blessed with three step-children, Ronald (Michele) Burch and his son, Kyle (Carol) Burch and his children, Savannah, Londyn and Austin, of California, and Heather Burch and her daughter Makayla Gaines, both of Connersville, Rena Bailey and her son, Branden, both of Connersville, and Roger (Kathy) Burch and his daughters, Kylie and Brooke, all of Fishers, Indiana, and a son, Brant Burch, of Salt Lake, Utah.
He is also survived by a sister, Stella Thomas of West Virginia.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Alice Marie.
Burial with military rites conducted by the U.S. Army will be in Valley Grove in Western Wayne County.
