Philip Wayne Boerger, 47, of Springfield, died unexpectedly Sunday, July 22, 2012, in Xenia.
He was born in Kenton on March 9, 1965, to Sinclair and Juanita Penhorwood Boerger. His father passed away March 17, 1970, and his mother on June 16, 2012. He also was preceded in death by a half-sister, Julia Weaver, and a half-brother, Larry Boerger.
Survivors include his son, Andrew, and his daughter, Savannah, both of Springfield; six sisters, Kathleen (Ken) Pritchard of Marion, Beverly (Frank) Jones of Ashley, Bonnie (Rod) Lease of Kenton, Tami (Vic) Deere of Belle Center, Alice (Richard) Fay of Forest and Betty (Wes) Kavanaugh of Ridgeway; his children's mother, Yvonne Boerger of Springfield; many nieces and nephews; and countless friends.
A lifelong motorcycle enthusiast, Phil was the owner of Steel Horsepower in Urbana. He was a certified Harley Davidson technician and was a very talented bike builder, having built many motorcycles for clients and for personal use through the years.
A 1983 graduate of Ben Logan High School, Phil was a tremendous fan of The Ohio State Buckeyes and enjoyed drag racing his own bike at the Kil-Kare Raceway in Xenia.
More than anything, he was a proud and devoted father and a loving brother and friend.
David Augustus officiates a funeral at 1 p.m. Saturday at Mannasmith-Schnurrenberger Funeral Home, West Mansfield, where friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday. Friends are encouraged to dress casually for the service and ride motorcycles if able. Burial is in Ridgeway Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Andrew & Savannah Boerger Education Fund in care of the funeral home.
