Funeral services for Mr. Forrest Abercrombie, 86, Fay resident, were held at 10 a.m. today in the Fay auditorium, officiated by the Rev. David Beck and burial will conclude in the Mount Hope Cemetery, near Fay and under the direction of the Kiesau-Lee Funeral Home in Clinton.
Forrest Ferold Abercrombie was born on the family farm northwest of Fay on Oct. 21, 1922, to Robert Young and Effa Eldora (Stinson) Abercrombie and he passed away very unexpectedly on the family farm Northwest of Fay Friday, Nov. 21, 2008.
Mr. Abercrombie was raised in the Fay community attending Bell School and he graduated from Fay High School in 1942. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy at the beginning of World War II on Nov. 20, 1942. He served on the U.S.S. Boyd 544 and he witnessed the original raising of the flag on Iwo Jima. He received his honorable discharge on Dec. 30, 1945.
He returned back to the Fay area and married Miss Alzada Jennette Cline on March 19, 1949, in Arapaho. They lived and farmed for over 50 years on the family farm northwest of Fay.
He was active with the Fay Community Tuesday Lunches, Wild Game Feed, Stinson reunions. Jerry Spanglers 4th of July parties, Pitch and Hand and Foot card games and he especially enjoyed visiting with family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Alzada; two sisters, Alma Abercrombie and Violet Clinton; and a brother, Arley Abercrombie; sisters-in-law, Mary Cline and Iva Lois Cline; and his brother-in-law, Dennis Cline.
He is survived by his four children, Daleene Caldwell and husband, Larry, Stillwater, Rush Abercrombie, Fay, Eldora Horton and husband, Dwaine, Thomas and Robin Meyer and husband, Chuck, Weatherford; six grandchildren, Shane Caldwell, Stillwater, Dorrin Caldwell and wife, Hazel, Stillwater and Shawna Meyer, Abbey Meyer and Natalie Meyer, all of Weatherford; and a step-granddaughter, Jennifer Meyer Hicks and husband, Tyler, Yukon.
He is also survived by his great-grandchildren; Tyler Caldwell, Alyssa Caldwell and Allana Caldwell, all of Stillwater; and his brother, Worth Abercrombie and his wife, Louise, Ponca City; brother in law, Truman Cline, Mendenhall, Miss.; and many nieces and nephews.
The family has suggested those wishing to make memorial contributions may do so to the Fay Community Association.
