Father Adsley Dead.

John Adsley, long and familiarly known to many Traverse City people as "Father" Adlsey, died Wednesday evening at his home, on Washington street.

Mr. Adsley was born near Rochester, Kent, England, June 23d, 1813, and was therefore in his ninetieth year. Until about a year ago he had been remarkably well for a man of his age, but had failed for some months and at the last was confined to his bed about three weeks. He was a faithful member of the Baptist church, and his great pride was that he never missed a Sabbath in the year in his attendance until his last sickness.

Funeral services were held at 1055 Washington street Friday morning at 10 o'clock.

"Father" Adsley was laid to rest in Oakwood by sorrowing friends Friday morning, after a long and honored life. The funeral services occurred at the residence, 1055 Washington street, and was attended by a large number who had known and loved the old pioneer in life.

The service was in charge of Rev. W. T. Woodhouse, who spoke words of cheer to the mourners and of eulogy for the dead, whose faithfulness in church work was most exemplary. The music was furnished by Miss Hastings and Miss Higgins. The pall bearers were Emanuel Wilhelm, William Grant, E., W. Hastings, C. J. Garnett, William Smith and O. G. Millar, all but the last two of whom are deacons of the Baptist church of which the deceased was such a faithful member.

"Father" Adsley leaves four sons, of whom two were present at the funeral. The funeral was in charge of L. D. Curtis and the body was consigned to its long sleep in the family lot in Oakwood cemetery (Grand Traverse Herald, 6 November 1902, page 2, column 4).
