John was born to John & Hannah Rogers (Nickless) Campbell. He married Nancy Rugg in Worcester, Massachusetts Nov. 23, 1793.
Full of adventure, he moved his family to Ohio, where Nancy rests in Ohio soil. In 1812 he took his 7 children to the wilds of Indiana to what was then Vigo County. Here among many difficulties & hardships of that time his first son, John, Jr. was stolen by the Indians when very young. John and his children were among the earliest pioneers to this area.
