Funeral of Mrs. H. W. Brown
Deceased was formerly a resident of Leadville, and has two grandsons and a granddaughter residing here. The Daily Santa Cruz Sentinel has the following account of the funeral:
"Mrs. Hannah Webster Brown, who was buried in the Odd Fellows' cemetery Feb. 12, by the side of her son, Wilmer Brown, died in Oakland, Feb. 9, and was born in Lancaster county, Pa. Mrs. Emma W. Harlan, her only daughter, and Mrs. Eva H. France, a grand-daughter, the former from Colorado and the latter from Hoquiam, Wash. - came to be with her in her last sickness. They, with her two living sons, Capt. Albert Brown, E.C. Brown and Albert W. Brown, a grandson, were all present with her as she quietly and peacefully passed into immortal life. Her remains were accompanied by a representation of the J. A. Garfield Relief corps, of San Franscisco. A beautiful tribute of flowers was presented by her friends. A very impressive ceremony was performed by the pastor of the Central Methodist Episcopal church at San Francisco, and her remains were accompanied by representation of the J. A. Garfield Relief corps, of San Francisco, of which she was an honorary member. She was buried with the honors of this order, whose members were kindly assisted by a representation of the Santa Cruz Relief corps. Mrs. Brown was a true patriot, giving five sons to the service of her country."
