Civil War Veteran
5th REGT. RESERVES GA INF.

An early settler of Grady County and city of Cairo.
Gravestone is about 5 feet tall and carries large expansion letters with the following text on west side:

"J.K. ARLINE
AND
FAMILY"

and on lower portion of stone is the surname
"ARLINE" in larger text. Same stone, on east side reads:

"J.K. Arline
JUNE 5, 1829
APR. 1, 1911"

A verse on the coverstone reads:

"Although he sleeps his memory doth live,
And cheering comfort to his mourners give
Yea, though I walk through the valley
of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil.
Psalms 23-4"

Engraved on the lower right in reduced size text are the words "Schneider M Co.
Americus, GA"

Note: Stone lists "J.K.Arline" and I was referenced the first and middle names "John Kittrel" by a FindAGrave friend Candace Smith via a reference book for the Arlines written by Louise Tompkins Wynn.

Following provide by F/G Member Susan Barwick:

Died, at the residence of his son, Dr. T.J. Arline, John K. Arline aged 81 years, 9 months and 26 days.
Born June 5th, 1829, and died April 1, 1911, are the dates of Brother Arline's natural life, but the mere statement that he was born and that he died do not tell the complete history and they cannot measure the result of the life he lived.
Born in Lawrence county, he was brought by his parents to this section, then Decatur county, when he was but two years of age and so he spent eighty years in this section and his life was reared and known of all man...
(Follows is a lengthy praise of his life)...
Besides numerous friends and acquaintances, there were present at the funeral Mrs. Arline, Dr and Mrs. T. J. Arline and children, his sons, Ira, R.L., and J.J. Arline and wife, his two daughters, Josephine and Lela, his sister, Mrs. Homer Sapp and Miss Margaret Arline, his niece Mrs. Mary Logue, his brother-in-law, J.J. Sapp and son O.P. Sapp, besides several grandchildren. -The Grady County progress. April 07, 1911
