Charles Ray Allen, 89, of Petoskey, died Sept. 26, 1994, at Bortz Health Care of Petoskey.
Funeral was Saturday, Oct. 1, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Petoskey. The Rev. Wilbert Hegener officiated, and burial was in St. Francis Cemetery, Petoskey.
Mr. Allen was born Dec. 2, 1904, in Sombra, Ontario, Canada. He grew up and attended elementary school in Sombra, and went to high school in Sarnia, Ontario.
Mr. Allen moved to Petoskey in 1926 and began working for the Petoskey Portland Cement Co. Forty three years later, in July 1969; he retired from Penn-Dixie Cement Corp. as foreman of the packing and shipping department.
In May 1927, he married Violet Skinner at St. Francis Xavier Church in Petoskey. She preceded him in death in January 1942.
In June 1948, he married Ursula Dufina at St. Anne's Church on Mackinac Island, and she survives.
Mr. Allen enjoyed woodworking, golf and gardening.
He was a member of St. Francis Xavier Church and Holy Name Society.
Survivors include his wife, Ursula, of Petoskey; one son, retired U.S. Air Force Col. Charles J. Allen and his wife, Beverly, of Tacoma, Wash.; one daughter, Sarah Sevener and her husband, Allen, of Petoskey; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Mr. Allen is also survived by dear friends, Jim and Peg Griswold and family, Gwen Malloy and family, David, Kathy and Adele Przybylski, and Imad Mahawili and family; and special neighbors, Ron, Jan and Travis Knapp. Mr. Allen was also preceded in death by a son, James; a grandson, Michael; and II brothers and sisters, nieces and nephews.
