Nicholas George Agundez

Nicholas George Agundez, beloved husband, father and grandfather, passed away on Thursday, July 19, 2012.
Nicholas was born in Brawley, CA in 1933 to Sabina and Nicolas Agundez. He grew up in Brawley until the age of 16. He then moved to Huron, CA and graduated from Coalinga High School in 1951 having served as Senior Class President. He attended Coalinga Junior College, and Fresno State College where he was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity.
Nicholas led a rich life. He played football for Coalinga Junior College, Fresno State and a semi-pro team called the Fresno Hell Cats. Nicholas served in the United States Army where he received the unique assignment as that of a member of the US Army football team. The team played throughout Europe to entertain the troops and boost morale.
His career included working for several Westside ranches, including: Russell Giffen Inc., Vasto Valley Farms, Dresick Farms, and Wolf Farming Company. Nicholas was also the owner of Tres Picos Tomato Grading Stations and a partner in the Westside Four Land Partnership.
Nicholas was a licensed pilot and enjoyed viewing the San Joaquin Valley agricultural lands. He loved to play slow-pitch softball, hunt, golf, talk politics, Fresno State football, and having coffee at the Senior Citizens Center. He and his wife enjoyed traveling with family and friends.
He served his community in fraternal and service organizations. He was a member of Rotary, Elks, Eagles, Moose, and Native Sons of the Golden West clubs. He also worked as a precinct captain on election days.
Nicholas leaves behind his wife, Judith Carolyn Agundez, who he was married to for 52 years; daughters, Susan Brown and Lysa Meurer; son-in-law, Paul Meurer; and grandchildren; Stephanie and Andrea Brown, and Annika and Nicholas Meurer. He is survived by his sister, Martha Rodriguez.
He is preceded in death by his sisters; Carlota "Lottie" Mendez of Coalinga, Mary Oblitas of San Diego, and Connie O'Brien of Brawley.
A 5:00 p.m. Visitation and 6:00 p.m. Rosary will be held at the Phipps-Dale Funeral Chapel in Lemoore on Tuesday, July 24. Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, July 25 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Peter's Catholic Church.
