F.D. (Floyd Donald) grew up in Otis, La. and attended Oak Hill High School in Elmer. He had a knack for acting but rather than applying for an acting scholarship to college (as suggest by his teachers) he elected to join the U.S. Air Force in 1956. He married his high school sweetheart, Lorretta Richard, in 1957 and they had their first child, Gary Leonard, in Biloxi, Ms., in June 1958. After F.D. left the Air Force in 1960, they lived for a short time in Dallas, Tx. where Sheila Annette and Floyd Donald II were born, but soon returned to their childhood home in Hineston. F.D. and his children lost Lorretta to breast cancer in 1979. She was 40 years old. F.D. never fully recovered from this loss and never remarried. He lived his final years with his son, Gary, in Minden, La., and joined Lorretta in death in Apr 2002, also a victim of cancer. He was not only my Father, but in his last several years of life, he was my friend. He is missed.
