Mrs. Florence Springfield Almon obituary - 1950
Mrs. Florence Springfield Almon, 85, died Wednesday night of last week in the home of a daughter, Mrs. Grace Townsend, Nebo route 2.
Mrs. Almon was born on a farm three and a half miles north of Nebo, and included in the 1500 acres of land which she owned was the farm on which she was born. Her parents, the late B.F. and Henrietta Springfield, owned slaves at the close of the Civil War and set them free after President Lincoln issued his emancipation proclamation.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Townsend and Mrs. Hattie C. Crow, both of Nebo route 2; four grandchildren; two great-granddaughters; two brothers, M.D. Springfield, Lamar, Mo.; and a sister, Mrs. Helen Mooney, Denver, Colo.
Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at Star Hope General Baptist church, of which she was a member, with the Rev. Frank Mitchell, of Nebo, officiating, assisted by the pastor, the Rev. Charles Polley, of Dixon.
Burial was in Star Hope cemetery.
