Mrs. Phoebe Phillips Alberts, 79 of 4815 Walter Street, died at 2:45 yesterday afternoon at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Henry Tieman, 717 Union Avenue. Death was due to a lingering ailment.
Mrs. Alberts was born in Yorkshire, England, April 8, 1860, a daughter of the late William and Phoebe (Chandler) Davis, and married William Phillips in England in 1878. He died 20 years ago.
She is survived by three sons and three daughters: William Phillips of 100 South Forty-First Street; Arthur Phillips of 3815 Walter Street; Clarence Phillips of St. Louis; Ethel, wife of Henry Tieman of 717 Union Avenue; Mrs. Rebecca Weisen of East St. Louis and Stella, wife of Ralph Ducan of St. Louis.
She is also survived by 19 grandchildren, four great grandchildren and two sisters, Mrs J. Simons of Belleville and Mrs. S. Boucher of St. Louis.
The body was removed this afternoon from the Pete Gaerdner funeral home to the Tieman home at 717 Union Avenue, where funeral services will be held at 1:30 Sunday afternoon. Rev. Hartman will officiate. Interment will be made in Walnut Hill Cemetery.
Comments- I am leaving obituary as published. The only English Census record found in 1871 lists her birthplace as Cornhill, Worcestershire- Cornhill is now recorded in Staffordshire. Sometime after the death of her first husband William Phillips and after the 1920 census she married Joseph Edmund Albert so the correct last name is Albert. She was living with Joseph in 1930 but his name is not mentioned at all on her obituary. His tombstone spells the name Albert.
