Clyde Callan Coke, 91, of Ft. Worth, a loving husband, father, grandfather great-grandfather, and friend to many, went to be with God on Tuesday, March 26, 2013. A memorial service will be held at the First Baptist Church, 500 Webster Ave., Waco, in the main sanctuary at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 20.
A native of Fisher County, Texas, born March 15, 1922, Clyde lived in a variety of Texas towns. He resided in Waco from 1973 to 2005, his longest tenure in one town. He was a veteran of World War II where he served as a tail gunner in a B-24 in a group called the Carpetbaggers. Upon his return from England, he earned a degree in Chemistry from Hardin Simons. He worked for Shell Oil in Denver City. Clyde then joined the University of Texas at Austin in their Extension Division where he taught supervisory related courses to adult students around the state. Later, he transferred to Texas State Technical Institute in Waco doing the same work from which he retired in 1985. He and his wife, Margaret, moved to Fort Worth in 2001 to be closer to family. Clyde was known for saying to almost everyone he met "All you need is a personal relationship with Jesus Christ".
He was preceded in death by his father, Thomas Eugene Coke; his mother, Hattie Adair; his wife of 65 years, Margaret Dilley Coke; one son, Paul Edward Coke; and three great-grandchildren, Emiliana, Alexandria, and Sadie McWaters.
Survivors include his son, David L. Coke; grandchildren, Rita Coke McWaters and Raymond P. Coke; and four great-grandchildren, Ryan E. Coke, Eva M. McWaters, Mars P. McWaters, and Jude Coke.
