Byron Lee Betts was born August 2, 1926 and passed away on October 7, 2003 at his home in Redondo, where he was raised and lived most of his life. Byron and his family owned and operated Redondo Skate Arena in the 1940's, built the Betts' Redondo Marina in the 50's, the Bayshore Apartments in the 60's, Enchanted Village Family Entertainment Park in the 70's and Wild Waves Water Park in the 80's.
He is survived by May, his wife of 56 years and was a loving husband and father. Byron and May strived to make their dreams a reality while raising their three children, Christy Betts Peterson (Darrell), Cathy Betts (Danie Hyland) and Weston J Betts II (Thelma). Byron and May are also blessed with 13 grandchildren, three great-granddaughters, his surviving sister Barbara Englund (Eric), sisters-in-law Faye Rogers (Kathleen), Cecyle Simpson, brother-in-law Lloyd Rogers (Marge), also several nieces and nephews and many wonderful friends. Byron helped many people, loved and respected his wife and children, treasured his grandchildren and provided strength and guidance to them all. It is easy to say that Byron was a wonderful, caring man who is loved and will be remembered and missed by his family and his many good friends.
Memorial at Brooklake Community Church on October 13, 2003, 7 p.m., coffee and dessert following. In lieu of flowers, if you prefer, donations to Franciscan Hospice in Byron's name would be greatly appreciated.
