Dorothy Helen was born on August 30, 1921, in Walnut, Iowa, the daughter of Jerry and Nora (Linkletter) Glissmann. She was the second born of four daughters. Dorothy attended country school and graduated from Lewis High School in 1939. After her younger sister Jeraldine graduated from high school they moved to California, and worked for a phone company.
On February 22, 1946, she married Clifford Beckendorf in Reno, Nevada. They made their home on a farm in rural Walnut. Dorothy was a hard worker and kept herself busy by keeping a tidy house, preparing meals for the hired men, tending chickens, cleaning the milking machines, and breeding German Shepherds.
Dorothy was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Atlantic. Every month, she looked forward to her Neighborhood Ladies Club, where they enjoyed a cup of coffee while playing cards and visiting. She loved her family and her grandchildren will remember her for her delicious brownies.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Jerry and Nora Glissmann; husband, Clifford in 1988; and her sisters, Hazel Henningsen, Jeraldine Karstens, and Ethel Wood.
A memorial graveside service was held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, January 10, 2015, at the Atlantic Cemetery, with Pastor Ken Davidson officiating.
