Ersel Addis , 80, of Iowa City, died Sunday, April 2, 1995, in her home following a long illness. Services will begin at 10 a.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church of Iowa City. The Rev. Patricia Halverson and the Rev. Wilda Morris will jointly officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the George L. Gay Funeral Home. Memorial donations may be made to First Baptist Church.

Ersel Addis was born Dora Ersel Webber on Oct. 21, 1914, in Perlee, Iowa, to Myron and Dorinda Webber. She is a 1932 graduate of Iowa City High School. On Feb. 14, 1935, she married Laird Clark Addis Sr. in Bath, N.Y., in a ceremony conducted by her brother, the Rev. Fred M. Webber. She was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church and served as a state officer of American Baptist Women. She belonged to Rundell Club and Iowa City Storytellers League. For many years, she worked as a professional drapery-maker, working for local interior decorators, furniture stores and other businesses. She and her husband were parents of foster children through many years.

Ersel Addis is survived by her husband, Laird; two daughters, Yvonne Nutting of Mason City, and Sue Dayton and her husband, Chuck, of Iowa City; two sons, Laird Addis Jr. and his wife, Patricia, of Iowa City, and Winston Addis and his wife, Georgi, of Bellevue, Wash.; five sisters, Abbie Brender of Newton, Hattie Hutton of Fairfield, Norinne Hines of Texas, Lottie Whitsel of Des Moines and Woodye Kessler of Iowa City; a brother, the Rev. Aaron Webber of Texas; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Her parents and two brothers preceded her in death.
