Blanche Irene Nichols was born on Feb. 23, 1923 in Sexton, Missouri to Edgar R. and Ivy Berta (Beaty) Nichols, the third of five children and died March 6, 2013 at the age of 90. Two of her brothers died in childhood and her brother, James Roy in 1999 and her sister, Gladys Nadene Nichols Ashley in 2004.
The family moved to Humansville, Mo. In 1925. She graduated from Humansville High School in 1941 and Draughns Business College in 1942. On March 14, 1944 she was united in marriage to John Wilcox Ball and to this union two children were born, Linda in 1946 and John in 1948 shortly after her husband John was killed in a private plane crash.
She moved to Kansas City in 1954 and worked for the Kansas City School District until her retirement in 1991. She was joined in marriage to Donald D. Anderson on April 12, 1969. They lived in Mission, Ks for many years and retired to John Knox Village in Lee's Summit in 2004. They were blessed with five grandchildren. Alexander Devon Mack, Julie Ann Ball, David John Mack, Nancy Kristine Ball and Thomas Michael Mack. In later years, 4 more step-grandchildren were added.
She leaves 10 great-grandchildren and 16 step-great-grandchildren. Her beloved granddaughter, Dr Julie Ball-Pink and son-in-law, Thomas A. Mack preceded in her death.
Blanche is survived by her husband, Donald D. Anderson; daughter, Linda Mack; son, John Ball and wife Donna; her grandchildren, Alexander Mack (Destiny), Riann, Raine, Rylee and Reed; David Mack (Jennifer), Hayleigh and Emaley; Thomas M. Mack; Nancy Palmer (Bo), Jackson, Caroline and Elizabeth; and grandson-in-law, Jason Pink and Mikayla; her former daughter-in-law Cheryl Ball; her nephews James Nichols (Sandy) and Bob Ashley. She is also survived by her long-time caregiver and loved other "daughter" Susan Bliss and her five children.
She was a member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Shawnee for many years, then joined First Baptist Church of Lee's Summit.
The family wants to express their gratitude to the ministry of FBC for their many visits and prayers and to the caregivers at John Knox Village Care Center of Lee's Summit for their love and care over the past 5 years.
Visitation will be held Monday, March 11, 2013 at 9:30 am at the Maple Hill Funeral Home in Kansas City, Ks with services and interment following at 10:00 am. The Rev. Allen Baker will conduct the funeral service.
The family would appreciate donations to be made in her honor to the First Baptist Church of Lee's Summit Youth Ministry instead of flowers.
