Mary Sutherland/Sunderland Cochran was born on Saturday, April 20, 1782, likely in Virginia. Her parentage is unknown at the time of research and or the documentation verifying her maiden name.

No marriage record has been found in Berkeley, WV as per their genealogy research department. They checked several states, no record found.

Aug. 7, 1807 per West Virginia, Berkeley Vital Records. Parents listed as George W Cochran and Mary Sutherland. This verifies George W and Mary Sutherland were the parents of George Jr.

According to the census, they migrated to Ohio. They appear on the 1830 in Jackson, Pickaway County, Ohio. Jan. 21, 1835, Allen, Ohio. A marriage record is filed for a George Cochran and Mary Sunderland [sic]. No age is listed on the record. This record causes questions to arise: Was George Sr getting remarried? We're records destroyed and this was a legality matter?

I have found property records dated 1843 under "a" George Cochran, Section 32, pg 443 "History of Allen County, Ohio: Containing a History of the County, Its ..." Also William Cochran Sec. 32, James Cochran, Section 33, 1847, James Cochran, Sec 34, 1834.

Mary died on Sunday, June 15, 1856 at the age of 74 years, 1 month, and 26 days old. She is buried on her daughter and son in laws' family plot. The family monument is inscribed with their three names, James Hemphill, Sarah Cochran Hemphill and Mary wife of George Cochran. It is assumed, that the Mary buried here maiden' name was Sutherland
