Eugene was born in Portland. He was a City of Portland police officer. Eugene is survived by his daughter, Janice; and sons, John W. and Douglas E. A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 19, 2011. in Bethel Baptist Church. Arrangements by Hustad Funeral Home.

Bethel Baptist Church member passes, Eugene "Gene" Walter Fenter.
Gene Fenter died Sunday, March 6 at age 90. He was born June 26, 1920 in Portland. He was the only child of Henry Walter and Emma Lee Fenter.
Gene played baseball as a "southpaw" pitcher for several Pop Warner teams in the Portland area, and for Jefferson High School. He went on to play professional baseball for the Salem Senators and spent a short time with the Cheyenne Cowboys in Wyoming. Gene enjoyed golf, photography, and watching sports, especially the Portland Trail Blazers.
During WWII he was a PFC in the Army, serving in the 1st Division, Co. A 26th Infantry Reg. Before the war he was a welder for the Kaiser Corporation in Vancouver, constructing aircraft carriers and troop transports. Gene was a retired police officer for the City of Portland, and after he retired worked a few years for the Multnomah County Library.
He married Evelyn Irene Campbell in The Dalles June 11, 1941. They were the parents of three children. Evelyn died in 1987.
He was a longtime member of the Bethel Baptist Church, 7807 N. Fessenden. A memorial service was held at the Church for him on March 19th.
Surviviors include daugher, Janice Fenter; sons John W. Fenter and Douglas E. Fenter; five grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
