November 2 1950 Holton Recorder
Almedia King, daughter of Anthony and Mary A. King, was born at Hagan, Virginia, May 10 1873, and died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Claude Bontrager, in Holton, on October 25, 1950, at the age of 77 years, four months and 14 days.
She was united in marriage to Harrison E. Shupe at Rosehill, Virginia, December 23 1897 and he died September 12, 1908. To his union were born five children; Sherman Shupe, Netawaka, Kan.; Mary O'Brien, Kansas City, Kan.' Leonard Shupe, Sergeant Bluffs, Iowa; Freeman Shupe, Emmett, Kan.; and one daughter Rose Shupe, who died in infancy.
In her early married life, she with her husband united with the Christian church in Virginia.
On April 8 1914, she was united in marriage to William Lewis Cochren. To his union two children were born; Merel Cochren and Pauline Bontrager of Holton. Her husband preceded her in death, June 15 1932.
She leaves to mourn her departure four sons, two daughters, sixteen grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and two sisters, Mrs. Kate Thompson of Malin, Ore., and Sally Shupe of Circleville, Kansas.
Mrs. Cochren has lived in Netawaka and vicinity for the past 45 years, and will be greatly missed by her many friends and neighbors.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m., Oct 27 at the Methodist church in Netawaka. Rev. Travis Siever, officiating, and the Mercer Funeral Home in charge. Music was furnished by Mrs. Emma Beam, Mrs Anna Mae Mapes and Mrs. Aletha Williams. Pallbearers were Bert Amon, Frank Bottenberg, John Cochren, Herbert Oxandale, John Ely and Elmer Johnson. Burial was in the Netawaka Cemetery.
