Varee A. Anderson passed away April 27, 2002, at Infinia at Kensington at the age of 79.

She was born May 29, 1922, in Agra, one of seven children to Merle Albert and Ruth (Lesher) Merrifield. Following the death of her father, the sale of the farm, and her mother obtaining employment in Oregon, Andy and Varee became surrogate parents for her siblings and their families. She was a graduate of the Agra High School and later attended a trade school for girls in Ark City.

Varee was a homemaker for the most part of her life. She worked for Cessna in Wichita prior to her marriage and later was a switchboard operator in Kirwin

She was united in marriage to Wayne LeRoy "Andy" Anderson in 1944 in Wichita, and to this union two daughters were born: Deanna and Connie.

She was a member of the Kirwin United Methodist Church, the Willing 15 Club, and the Harry E. Clarke American Legion Auxiliary Post No. 277.

Varee was a true artist. She had an artistic eye and a mechanics knowledge. She could paint, refinish, and repair almost anything. She was an antique collector and had an eye for unique things. She was a very creative person and could turn an ordinary piece of driftwood into something memorable. She was an avid reader and loved crossword puzzles and enjoyed visiting with folks, camping, listening to music, and dancing.

She loved to cook. Her grandkids remember her pancakes and her neighbors and friends will miss that extra pie she always seemed to have when they were sick or in need. Next to her family and her own grandchildren, her true love was for all the little children around her.

Preceding her in death include her parents, her husband, Andy, January 14, 2002, and two sisters: June Cole and Corrine Zook.

Survivors include her daughters: Deanna Irby and husband Leo of Overland Park and Connie Behle and husband Myron James of Byron, Nebraska; three brothers, Wayne Merrifield and wife Velta of Phillipsburg, Hollis Merrifield and wife Mary of String, Texas, and Ron Merrifield and wife Twila of Wray, Colorado; one sister, Shirley Wagner and husband Joe of Salina; six grandchildren: Robert Leffler and family of Hastings, Nebraska, John Leffler and Candy Leffler both of Sacramento, California, Darrin Irby and family of Gunnison, Colorado, Lance Irby of Raymore, Missouri, and Angie Waller and husband of Wichita Falls, Texas; and five great-grandchildren: twins--Andy and Amira Varee Leffler of Flagstaff, Arizona, Sonya and twins--Tony and Matt Leffler of Hastings, Nebraska. Varee will be sadly missed by her family and friends.

Funeral services were held Thursday, May 2, at 2 p.m. in the Kirwin United Methodist Church with Rev. Verle Clark and Rev. Harold Ellis officiating.

The congregation sang "Amazing Grace" accompanied by Mary Kincaid. "Only Time" was played as a taped selection.
