"Jean Dahse Babel of Houston died on the 27th of August 2012 at her home in Houston after a brief battle with cancer. She was born on the 19th of October 1925 in Austin to Eric Herman Dahse and Emma Mansfield Dahse, an identical twin to her sister, Margaret Dahse Hunter of Waco. Jean grew up in Austin until the age of five when her family moved to Waco where she graduated from Waco High School in 1942 and Baylor University in 1946. She also attended William and Mary College. While at Baylor, Jean was a Baylor Beauty and a member of Delta Alpha Pi (DAP) that was later colonized as Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority. Upon graduating from Baylor, Jean moved to Houston and lived with her aunt and uncle for three years while working for Humble Oil and Refining Co. She met her husband Walter Edgar Babel, Jr. in 1949, and they were married in 1950. They raised their three children in Houston, where they met and made many lifelong friends with whom they shared extensive travels and social activities. Jean had a great passion for the game of bridge, which she started playing while at Baylor. As a skilled and devoted player, Jean played several times a week and with most of the same friends for over fifty years. They experienced many memorable trips together, with her favorites being to LaJolla and Thailand. Jean was a member of the Kappa Alpha Theta Houston alumnae and St John the Divine Episcopal Church. She is preceded in death by her parents and husband of 52 years."
