RESIDENT COUNTY FIFTY YEARS DIED TUESDAY
Mrs. Fred Epling a resident of Woodbury county for over 50 years, died Tuesday in the home of her daughter, Mrs. Sophia Tabke, at Sioux City. Mrs. Epling had been ill only a few days. Sophia Harmes was born at Oak Harbor, Ohio, on August 13, 1855, and died at Sioux City, Iowa, on May 21, 1935, aged 79 years, 9months and 8 days. (She was the daughter of Johann Heinrich Harmes and Frederika Sophie Gielow) On June 6, 1874, she was united in marriage to Frederick Epling. Mr. and Mrs. Epling moved to Woodbury County in 1885. After living on a farm near Moville for 30 years they moved to Moville. Mr. Epling died on October 23, 1915. A son also preceded Mrs. Epling in death.
Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Amelia Tebben of South Sioux City, Nebr., Mrs. Minnie Tabke of Moville and Mrs. Sophia Tabke of Sioux City; one son, Louie Epling, of Moville; a brother, Harmon Harmes of Moville; a sister Mrs. Mary Shelite, of Capron, Oklahoma; fourteen grandchildren and twenty-two great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held in the United Brethren church at Moville Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock with Rev. S.M.Zike officiating. Burial will be in Arlington Cemetery. Pallbearers will be her six grandsons, Fred Tabke, John Tabke, and Leroy Epling of Moville, Ralph and Ervin Tebben of South Sioux City, Nebr., and William Tabke of Sioux City.
