this grave was moved to the Alfrey cemetery in 1971 when the Army Corp of Engineers created Cave Run Lake. she was formerly in the Hargis cemetery, Rowan co,KY. Next to P.A.Campbell. Roseanna Caudill is her maiden name. she was married first to Greenville Ashley, Dec 21,1877, in Letcher co,KY, she was just 16.Green was born in 1859, died 1881. the family story was that they lived in the Cumberland Gap area of Wise co VA. they had 3 children. Green had an illness that caused him to be unable to walk, he crawled among the rows in the garden trying to care for it. According to Virgie's story, after Green died in Wise co VA, Roseana took the family cow, a flock of geese and her kids and walked over the mountains back to Letcher county, KY where her Caudill family lived. this might not be true as his death was in Letcher co, Knott co border area, KY. the Caudill name is well known as a Melungeon family. Rosanna married Pleasant[Ples]Campbell in MI marriage records, and moved to Morehead, KY. Virgie remembered going there to visit when she was about 10, from WI. 1880 Letcher co census- Green A Ashley illiterate KY NC NC. Rosa 21 cannot write KY KY KY. Caroline 2 . Francis m 2/12 b Mar 1880. later children were William Ashley b 1881, Elizabeth.
