COLORED CIVIL WAR VETERAN IS DEAD
Sergeant Henry Allen Served on Western Frontier With Ninth Cavalry.
Sergeant Henry Allen, colored, 75 years old, a resident of Spokane for many years, died Friday at his home E1107 Rich avenue. He was a Civil war veteran and served in the western frontier wars with the Ninth colored cavalry.
Sergeant Allen enlisted with the Ninth Massachusetts in 1862 and fought in many of the most bloody engagements of the war. At the cease of the war he was stationed at Washington D.C. for some time and later was with the Tenth infantry.
The deceased is survived by a son, Charles C. Allen of Spokane, two daughters Mrs. Elizabeth Elliott of Seattle and Mrs. Charles Johnson of Bremerton, and a brother, M.C. Maxfield of Washington D.C.
The funeral will be held Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock from Smith's with burial in Greenwood cemetery.
