Robert E. Lyerla, 76, longtime Pittsburg businessman, of 608 W. Euclid, Pittsburg, was pronounced dead at 6:10 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2002, at Mt. Carmel Regional Medical Center. He was born April 9, 1925, to W.S. and Angie Exley Lyerla. He graduated from Pittsburg public schools and from Kansas State Teachers College in 1951.
In 1949, he married Peggy Sue Barcus. She preceded him in death. He married Molly Ruth Ramsey. She preceded him in death.
He served in the United States Navy during World War II from 1943 to 1946.
Mr. Lyerla was the owner of Little's Inc. in downtown Pittsburg since 1950.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church. He was active in downtown revitalization projects and started the Downtown Merchants Association in 1967. He served as chairman and financial director of the Pittsburg Christmas Decorations Council for more than 35 years. He was a member of the Junior Chamber of Commerce and held numerous offices. He was a founding member of the Crestwood Country Club.
Survivors include his life partner, Patrick J. O'Bryan of the home; one daughter, Linda Sue Schoenfeldt of Kansas City, Mo.; one son, Robert L. Lyerla of Bakersfield, Calif.; one step-daughter, Kathleen Ramsey Foulke of Hilton Head, S.C.; and five grandchildren
