Rev. Brooks and family returned home on last Friday evening, from West Rushville [Fairfield Co.], Ohio, whither they had been called to attend the death-bed and funeral of Mrs. Brooks' mother, Mrs. R.P. MEMORIAM

Ann Jamina Kilgore was born near Elkton, Cecil County, MD, December 15th, 1821. With her parents she moved to Granville, Ohio, in 1828, and from there to West Rushville, Ohio, 1829. She united with the Methodist Episcopal Church in her eleventh year.

She was united in marriage with Robert P. Alford, December 15th, 1840. To them were born two sons and six daughters. After her marriage, she united with the Presbyterian church of which her husband was a member, and remained a devoted and faithful member until October 19th, 1884, when the summons came after a severe affliction of more than three years, and she was called from suffering to her reward.

The subject of this memoir was retired and unassuming in manner, but earnest and persevering in what she conceived to be right. Her excellency of spirit and force of character was felt most in the home circle. As a wife she was devoted and kind. As a mother she was patient, loving, thoughtful and self-sacrificing. Her life was in an eminent degree a success. She lived to see all her children, but one who died in early childhood, in the Christian church, and cheerfully gave one daughter to the Methodist Itinerancy, Mrs. L.C. Brooks, of the Ohio Conference, and was ever ready to encourage her in her life of toil in the vineyard of the Lord. To the writer she said, My Christian experience is different from many others. The light that shone dimly at first has been constantly increasing until now there is no clouds. I am trusting my Savior and am prepared for whatever may be his will. I have no fear, I am ready to go. Oh, I am so Happy.

A short time before her departure she called her family, assured them of her victory through faith in Christ, spoke of her joy, gave her dying council and at about 9 o'clock Sabbath morning, Oct. 19, her happy and blood-washed spirit winged its flight to that home, which her Savior had gone to prepare.

She leaves a husband, two sons, four daughters and many friends to mourn their loss. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Watson, her pastor, assisted by Rev. Chindler D.D., of Lancaster, Rev. T.G. Wakefield of East Rushville and Rev. I.M. Brashares, of West Rushville. —L.C.B. [Rev. Leonidas Culver Brooks—her son-in-law, husband of Adeline Humphreys Alford Brooks and great-grandfather of Kay Ann Kaufman Feiden, AAFA #0653]
