Son of David Asberry and Georgia Anna (Gore) Black. Married Ada Starnes December 17, 1899 in Yalobusha County, Mississippi. Father of: Edgar Clifford, Mary Viola, Veoma, Verley Isom, Myrtice Effie and Myrtle Kattie Ruth Black.

Services for Mr. John Hanson "Isom" Black were held Saturday, May 21, 1960, at Turkey Creek Baptist Church. Rev. Johnson officiated, assisted by Rev. Hollingsworth and Rev. Paul Kiiheil. Pallbearers were Opal Newson, Milford Poindexter, Jimmy Cofer, Wallace Forsyth, Edwin Hill and Hervis Hamblin.

Mr. Black, who was 83, died on May 20, 1960, at his daughter's home on Water Valley Route 4. He had been ill for several months.

A native of Yalobusha County, Miss., Mr. Black had spent 64 years of his life in Calhoun County, Miss., he was a Baptist. His wide circle of friends mourn his passing.He was known as a friendly man and a splendid neighbor.

In his early life he married Miss Sara Ada (Ali May) Starnes.

He leaves two sons, Edgar Black, of Water Valley, Miss. and Verley Black, of near Vardaman, Miss.; three daughters, Mrs. Paul Williams and Mrs. L. A. Tubbs, both of Water Valley, Miss., and Mrs. Veoma Downs, of Shaw, Miss.; Twenty grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.
