Mrs. Sarah Best Buried in Hillcrest Cemetery.
Sarah Augusta Carlyle [Carlile] was born Nov 8, 1872 in Missouri and when a little girl moved with her parents to Kansas.
On April 11th, 1892, she was married to William Ferguson Best at Clay Center, Kan., and resided with her husband in Kansas until April 1904, when they moved to Elstow, Sask., Canada, and since 1939 has divided her time between her daughters Mrs. Abram J. Best [Fast] of Portland Oregon and Mrs. Chas. E. Foster of Estelline, S.D.
In September 1939, Mrs. Best's health commenced to fail and since January 1940, she has been critically ill. On May 18th she was operated on and found to be a victim of cancer. The family was told that nothing could be done to save her so she was brought to the home of her daughter, Mrs. Chas. E. Foster, on Mary 31 from Portland, Oregon, where everything humanely possible was done to relieve her sufferings and she passed peacefully away on Thursday, June 13th, 1940, at 4:30 am, at the age of 67 years, 7 months and 5 days.
Deceased is survived by her husband and four sons, Wm. Kidd Best, MacDowall, Sask., Canada, George W. Best of Delmas, Sask., John H. Best, Saskatoon., Canada and James A. Best, Victoria, British Columbia. Three daughters, Mrs. Chas. E. Foster, Bruce, S.D., Mrs. Chas. Cook, Sutherland, Sask., and Mrs. Abram J. Fast, Portland, Oregon, also 17 grandchildren, three brothers, Albert, Ben and Perry all of Kansas and 2 sisters, Mrs. Rilda Cutshaw and Matilda Lewis, also of Kansas. One daughter, Jessie, preceded her in death.
Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon with a prayer service at the Chas. E. Foster home south of Estelline at one o'clock, and at the congregational church at 2 with Rev. Geo. M. Turner officiating.
Pall bearers were six nephews: Maurice, LeRoy, George, Erwin, Milford and Wayne Foster. She was laid to rest in Hillcrest cemetery.
