EAST MOLINE — Charles Paul Anderson, 90, of East Moline, passed away quietly Sunday, May 8, 2011, at Hope Creek Care Center, East Moline, from complications of Alzheimer 's disease.
Graveside services are 11 a.m. on Thursday at Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline, where military honors will be conducted by Moline American Legion Post 246. At Paul's request, there is no visitation. Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, Rock Island, is assisting the family. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation.
Paul was born January 6, 1921, in Heitman, Iowa, a son of Charles and Hettie Rutan Anderson. He married Virginia M. Allman on September 22, 1951, in Rock Island.
He attended school and grew up in the Albia, Iowa, area. Paul was a World War II U.S. Army veteran, serving in the 283rd Engineers Division in England, France and Belgium. Upon returning state side, Paul was employed as a service lineman for the former Iowa Illinois Gas and Electric Co., until applying to the City of Moline for a police department opening. He served proudly as a Moline Police Officer, retiring 27 years later in 1976, as a lieutenant grade investigator. Paul continued to work part-time in several capacities. He did security work for several Illinois banks and later worked for W&H Limousine Service, primarily for Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Homes. Paul's greatest gift in life was his loving wife, Virginia, with whom he shared 60 very happy years.
Paul enjoyed working with several civic and fraternal organizations, including Moline Elks Lodge and the Moline Viking Club. His circle of friends was large and included his neighbors at Quail Run Condominiums. He was a kind and compassionate man and a wonderful father. He will be missed by all that knew him.
Survivors include his wife, Virginia; son, Paul Mcintosh, East Moline; sister, Phyliss Schatterman, Rock Island; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Edgar and Ray Anderson, and sisters, Lavada Duhelstein and Bonnie Hess.
