Raymond E. Bannon
Mr. Raymond E. "Skip" Bannon, 62, of Morris, died early Saturday morning, Nov. 6, 2010, at Edward Hines Jr. VA Hospital in Maywood, Ill., with his loving family by his side.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 10, at Fruland Funeral Home, 121 W. Jefferson St., in Morris. Pastor Steven Heilmann will officiate.
Interment will follow in Sample Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 9, at Fruland Funeral Home. Military honors will be provided by the Morris Color Guard.
Born Feb. 26, 1948, in Morris, Raymond was the son of Kenneth and Dorothy (Wren) Bannon. He received his education in the rural schools of Grundy County and graduated from Mazon-Verona-Kinsman High School with the class of 1965.
Skip served in the U.S. Marine Corp. in Vietnam from 1965 to 1969.
He married Nora Petry Sanders on March 2, 1994, in Morris. They lived most of their married life in Morris. He was employed at Morris Paper Mill, Interstate Wire and over-the-road trucking. He was also a mechanic at Farmers Automotive and helped on several farms.
Survivors include his wife, Nora; three sons, John (Christina) Fleetwood of Downers Grove, Ill., Jason (Kristi) Bannon of Joliet, Ill., and Raymond E. Bannon, Jr., of Morris; two daughters, Christina (Dan) Baccus of Texas and Joan Marie Bannon of Morris; two stepdaughters, Jennifer (Billy) Childers of West Frankfurt and Katherine (Tim) Gill of Morris; one stepson, William Sanders of Morris; nine grandchildren; two brothers, William (Reva) Bannon of Texas and Will Bannon of Morris; three sisters, Ann (Dave) Englert of Mazon, Diane (Dick) Friddle of Coal City and Debbie (Mike) Vota of Braceville; and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Kenneth Bannon, Jr., in 1988.
He enjoyed NASCAR racing, car shows, driving his 1939 Hudson and spending time with his family and grandchildren.
Memorials may be directed to the VA Hospital or American Cancer Society.
