Marinus John Aalbers III, 58, of 9655 109th Ave. Ottumwa died October 28, 2012 at his home.

He was born October 19, 1954 in Ottumwa to Marinus John and Geneva Sheppard Aalbers Jr. John served in the U.S. Marine Corps. A resident of Ottumwa before moving to California and Colorado, he returned to Ottumwa in 2011. He retired from teh Sheet Metal Workers Internatinal. John was a member of O.B.Nelson Post #3 American Legion, serving as activity director for Iowa's 5th District, and he was Past Commander of the Sons of the American Legion.

Surviving are three sisters, Maureen(Jim)Abbott of Davenport, Janet(John)Richards and Jackie McElroy both of Ottumwa; a brother, Richard(Pam)Aalbers of Ottumwa; six nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a nephew, Gary Bain Jr. and a niece Buffy Aalbers.

Funeral services will be 10 am Wednesday at Reece Funeral Home with Pastor Mel Kendall officiating. Military services will be conducted by O.B.Nelson Post #3 American Legion and Walter B.Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars. Cremation will follow the services. Visitation begins at 11 am Tuesday with the family present from 5-7 pm Tuesday. Memorials may be made to Heartland Humane Society, Ottumwa, IA.
