Lois Donovan Covington, 92, of Sharptown, Maryland, died on Thursday, August 5, 2010, at Delmar Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Delmar, Delaware.

She was born on March 23, 1918, in Seaford, Delaware, a daughter of the late Levin and Georgeanna Bounds Collins.

In addition to being a full-time homemaker, Lois worked at Benjamin's in Salisbury, a women's shop for fine clothing in her younger days. She was a very active member of the Junior Board Auxiliary at PRMC Hospital, a member of the Wicomico County Garden Club, the Westside Historical Society and a long time member of Asbury United Methodist Church in Sharptown, Maryland.

She loved growing flowers and was most proud of her day lilies. She unselfishly cared for many family members during their last years. She was always giving her possessions to someone who needed them more than she did and her generosity to others will not be forgotten.

She is survived by a son, Keith Collins Covington of Stanardsville, Virginia; two grandsons, Jacob Donovan Covington of San Francisco and Christopher Thomas Smith Covington, a senior in computer engineering at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Virginia; her daughter-in-law, Leni Smith Male of Charlottesville, Virginia; a sister, Mary Collins Hoffecker; and 13 nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Thomas Clyde Covington, who passed in 1998; three sisters, Doris Collins, her twin sister, Hettie Collins Johnson and Ruth Collins Webster; and six brothers, Milton, Norris, Gordy, Ernest and William Collins and Earl Insley.

A funeral service was held Thursday, August 12, 2010, at Short Funeral Home in Delmar, Delaware.

A memorial service was held Friday, August 20, 2010, at her residence in Sharptown, Maryland.
