VALLEY FALLS --- Wesley Theodore Arthur, 94, Valley Falls, died Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2001, at a Topeka nursing home.
Mr. Arthur owned and operated Arthur's Cafe in Valley Falls for 25 years. He later farmed in the Valley Falls area.
He was born July 29, 1907, in St. Joseph, Mo., the son of Paul Boyton and Clara Cleota "Cokie" Dittemore Arthur. He graduated from Ozawkie Rural High School in 1925. He had lived in Kansas City, Mo., St. Joseph, Mo., Sioux City, Iowa, and LeMars, Iowa, before he moved to Valley Falls in 1944.
Mr. Arthur was a member of First Christian Church in Valley Falls and a former member of Valley Falls Lodge No. 21 AF&AM, the Topeka Scottish Rite Bodies and Arab Shrine Temple.
He married Rena Mae Hammond on Sept. 22, 1926, in Oskaloosa. She died Jan. 21, 1996. A daughter, Rhesa Rae Arthur Newman, died April 4, 1982.
Survivors include two daughters, Shirley Ann Allen and Linda Janell Stansell, both of Valley Falls; a brother, Leslie K. Arthur, Roseburg, Ore.; a sister, Pauline Frederickson, Charleston, Ore.; eight grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; seven great- grandchildren; and four stepgreat-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the First Christian Church in Valley Falls. Burial of cremains will be in Valley Falls Cemetery.
