Doug "Big Gun" Barkelew, age 79, passed away peacefully on January 8, 2014 in Bullhead City, Ariz. He was born June 20, 1934 in Maywood, Calif. to Douglas Sr. and Leona (nee Benz) Barkelew (both deceased).

He owned a beauty salon and later in life his passion changed to weapons and ammunition and he owned a gun store and shooting range. He was a volunteer for the search and rescue departments of two fire departments in Calif. and Utah. He was also past governor of the Moose Lodge in Lake Elsinore, Calif. as well as a current active member of the Moose Lodge in Bullhead City, Ariz. When younger he enjoyed participating in dance competitions, and he also enjoyed riding and working on motorcycles.

He is survived by his son, Russ Barkelew (wife Jackie); daughter, Rhonda von Luhrte (husband Richard); three grandsons, Tyler Hill, Parker Hill, and Christopher von Luhrte; stepchildren, Louie Muro, Sylvia Medina, Jimmy Muro and Bobby Muro, (deceased); and several step-grandchildren.

Services will be held at graveside at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 18, 2014 at 9250 South Ranchero Lane, Mohave Valley, Ariz
