Edinburgh – George W. Brooks, 67, of Edinburgh, died Tuesday at Johnson County Memorial Hospital.
He was a Johnson County Sheriff's deputy from 1963 to 1966 and was a member if the Edinburgh Police Department from 1968 to 1983. He attended Blue River Gospel Tabernacle and was a member of Fraternal Order of Police. An avid fisherman, Brooks was a member of B.A.S.S., Hawg Hunter Club of Shelbyville and Tri County Anglers.
Funeral will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Eskew-Eaton Funeral Home, the Rev. George Eagler officiating. Calling will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Rest Haven Cemetery.
He was born May 29, 1921, in Hanover the son of Unie H. and Elva J. Wyne Brooks. He married Estella M. Bishop on April 20, 1944, and she survives.
Also surviving are three daughters, Carolyn S. Purvis and Angela Neville, both of Edinburgh, and Teresa F. Nelson of Whiteman Air Force Base in Missouri; two sons, Donald W. Brooks of Edinburgh and Gary D. Brooks of Butlerville; two brothers, Charles J. Brooks of North Vernon and Unie J. Brooks of Nineveh; two sisters, Edna Morgan and Doris Ann Stephan, both of Dupont; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
