Opal Fugate Harrell Adams, age 98, formerly of Groundhog Road passed away Saturday, June 28, 2014.

Mrs. Adams was born October 23, 1915 in Wheelwright, Kentucky. She had also resided in Fayetteville, NC before making her home in Haywood County for the past 20 years.

Opal was truly a talented lady. She was formerly employed as a professional baker and was known for her delicious cakes. She designed and created handmade crafts and was an excellent seamstress. Mrs. Adams was also a gifted artist, a published poet and the author of many short stories. Opal loved the Lord and had been a member of The Church of God. She has touched many throughout her lifetime with her blessed talents and her memory will be held forever in the hearts of her family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Nancy Collins Fugate Holbrook, her father, Reverend Ben C. Fugate and her step-mother, Emma Rhodes Fugate; her late husband, Jack Harrell; a son, Jackie Harrell; step-daughters, Myral Wooten and Ruby Harrell Lampley; a sister, Polly Perkins; brothers, Junior, Jack, Robert, James and Vardy Fugate and also a step-brother, Jim Holbrook.

Graveside funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 1, 2014 at Crawford / Ray Memorial Gardens in Clyde.
