James Erastus Davis was a younger son of John and Sarah (Kelley) of Wythe County, VA. They were early settlers in MO from VA. By 1830, a 2nd wave of Virginians had come into the Wayne County area, near Patterson and this was known as the Virginia Settlement. John & Sarah Davis and family were among the 2nd bunch. They arrived in time to be on the 1830 census and began farming on part of the David Logan Spanish Grant.
Some of James E.'s siblings were:

However 6 more children have been added. Joseph M. 18, Alice 14, Louise F. 12, Robert H. 11, Charley 8, and James T. 7.
Their father, James E. Davis, was a County Court Judge in 1894 & 1896, after Nancy died he re-married (2) to Susan "Frankie" Shearrer.

Henry, a son of Frankie (Shearrer) Davis, became an assistant to Missouri's Attorney General. Henry had a twin, Sarah, who became a teacher. John & Sarah(Kelley) Davis' daughter, married Andrew McFaddin, who also came from VA. The Fulton family that also settled in the VA Settlement, were ancestors of Rose Fulton Cramer, whose book WAYNE CO MISSOURI, pub. in 1972, by the Ramfre Press, of Cape Girardeau, MO, was the SOURCE (p. 114) on the James E. Davis families. Susan Frankie Shearrer was a sister to John Levi Shearrer who was my g-g-grandfather on my father's maternal lines. Source: Rev. A.O. Shearrer
