Aged Woman Fell to Death
Mrs. Mary Beins Overcome by Paralysis and Falls From Railway Bridge

Janesville, Wis., Aug 13 -- Mrs. Mary Beins of Whitewater, Wis., died here at 4 o'clock this afternoon as the result of a fall from the viaduct of the C.M. & St. P. railway company to the street below. Mrs. Beins was overcome with a paralytic stroke and it was as a result of this she fell over the viaduct to the street forty feet below.
Mrs. Beins with two daughters, Mrs. Hawley Riggs and Mrs. William Oakley, had been in the city for some time, coming here to receive treatment from local physicians. While here they had been guests at the home of Mrs. B. B. Hammond in North Jackson Street.
This afternoon the trio started to go to the city to visit the physician from whom they had been receiving treatment. As they reached the tracks which cross Jackson street it is thought they became confused and one of them suggested what looked like a shorter way to the street they desired. This led them along the C. & N.W. right of way and to the viaduct. Thinking a train was coming and that they would be caught on the viaduct, the women hastened their steps, but Mrs. Beins suddenly fell in a fit and before her daughters could get to her she had fallen through the ties and to the ground.
In the fall Mrs. Beins landed on her head. Her face was badly cut and bruised and she received internal injuries. The ambulance was called and she was hurried to the hospital, but her injuries where such that she died soon after reaching the hospital.
Mrs. Beins was about 62 years of age and is survived by several children. The remains will be taken to Whitewater for burial.
