Albert John (Johannes?) "A. J." Bannick

Birth: Sep. 17, 1873
California, USA
Death: Mar. 2, 1937
San Francisco
San Francisco County
California, USA

"A.J." was the son of Christian Carl Johannes BANNICK (Grave 5) and his first wife, whose name is unknown.

Albert's actual date of birth is uncertain as there are several different dob written for him. One cousin says abt 08 Sep 1873 or 17 Sep 1874; the 1880 Census indicates abt. 1871; 1900 Census states Sep 1872; 1910 Census approximates 1874; WWI Draft Registration indicates 17 Sep 1873; San Francisco Call Index says 28 when married to Alice Kane, which correlates to 1872; and, cemetery records say he was 62 yrs, 5 mos, 24 days old when he died, which correlates to 06 Sep 1874. Since he signed his WWI Draft Registration Card, I use that date, but that is not necessarily correct.

His Death-Funeral Notice (see below) indicates he was a native of San Francisco, but it is possible he was born in Sacramento. Need to find better documentation to nail down the dob and pob.

Image of Death-Funeral Notice found in ancestry's "California, San Francisco Area Funeral Home Records, 1895-1985" database. No source cited, but date of publication is inferred from "funeral services today (Friday)..." as being: Friday, 5 Mar 1937. Transcription by KBo; spelling and punctuation are as in original notice.

"BANNICK---In this city, March 2, 1937, Albert J. Bannick, beloved brother of Mrs. Meta Fleischer of Oxnard, California, Mrs. Chrystal B. Davis and the late Mrs. Dora Boehme and loving grandfather of William Pahl and great grandfather of Philip J. Pahl; a native of San Francisco. A member of Crockett Lodge No. 139, F. & A. M., and Spanish American War Veteran.
"Friends are invited to attend the funeral services today (Friday) at 1 p. m., at the chapel of H. F. Suhr Co., 2919 Mission street [sic], near 25th, under the auspices of Crockett Lodge No. 139, F. & A. M. Inurnment, Woodlawn Columbarium." [Note: He is not in the Columbarium, rather, his ashes were buried in the Bannick family plot, sharing Lot 1 with his half-sister Dora, and her husband Max Paul Boehme.]
